Robert Sabin was born in Michigan in 1949. He earned a b.a. from Yale and an m.a. from Bennington college, with scholarships along the way to National Music Camp, Yale Summer School at Norfolk, and Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture.
For many years Robert has been a freelance illustrator specializing in editorial art and paperback covers. His artwork has appeared on the covers of books printed by every major paperback house, as well as in magazines such as Good Housekeeping and Readerís Digest. In the last decade he has established himself as a successful portrait painter, and has returned to his first loves, landscape and seascape painting. At the moment he is trying to paint the perfect wave, and to mix an elusive sea green.
Robert has always found the process of distilling a viable image from observation justification enough to paint. Somehow, despite all the simplifications, the paintings come alive. Who knows how?
In addition to Thomas Henry Gallery, Robert is represented by Charles Michael Gallery, North Salem, NY. His portrait representatives are Portraits North, Concord MA, and Portrait Consultants, NY and Washington, D.C.
